The largest”selling” point of this for me was that it’s my fantasy mmo in my favorite sport setting. You can do without getting bored, and the gameplay is so much fun to me the grind does not even feel like you. I suppose. It is a grind, especially endgame, but I am not likely to pay attention to it. The mill is an excuse. Eagerly awaiting the Open Beta.

I think the biggest thing for me is that it has been about 20 years since I was in high school and hooked to PSO on Dreamcast, therefore my nostalgia for that era of gaming is recently ripe for indulgence. While it’s been relatively easy for me to revisit and enjoy games such as THPS3, Burnout 3, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, SoulCalibur and many others, I have become aware of an increasing, PSO-shaped hole in my heart and have found several practical strategies to fill it. Until this past weekend. It, that aesthetic, that universe, and that music does not even seem that much better than I recall it.

It is bigger and bloated, although PSO all around with several years’ worth of content, calling out to me like a impossible and delicious knot demanding to be adored and unraveled.

It’s exactly what I want at this time, and it couldn’t have come at a better time, for me. Outside of that very specific type of nostalgia, I don’t really know what it is about PSO that works for me similar games do not; I have bounced off countless other online action RPGs since, and frankly the complaints I’ve regarding those titles (too insistent, too time consuming, too nakedly manipulative, etc) may also apply to PSO2 from everything I can tell from my time with the beta.
